Using 20-20 is one of my passions and V9 is one of the best versions in many years. Version 10 has just been released and it is amazing- a totally different ball game in my view and a huge departure from V3.2 which was my first introduction to 20-20 in 1990 or 1991.

When I heard about the master certification I jumped on it. Life is about being the best person you can be and with 20-20, my job is an honorable one: I help designers and dealers with beautiful presentation packages, or pricing, or classes to make their jobs easier.

The V9 Master Certification exam is very good and it made me think of new things to focus on while using the software. What do you think about taking the exam?

Is a personalized title block important in a set of drawings? I think it is a must for anyone in business using drawings for a presentation or for construction. It can contain a lot of information about the who, what, when, where, how, and why of a project. It may also [which is really great] convey and illustrate the personality of the design firm when the title block includes the company logo, especially in color.

A title block is generally a rectangular region which contains the name, project, signatures or initials, dates, identification number, sheet number, and scale—to name just a few of the variety of items possible. It may also display the company name, address, city, state, zip code, and a phone number or e-mail address.

A single project may include many different drawings such as a floor plans, elevations, perspectives, and various detail views. A consistent title block on each page ties all of the items together and imparts a uniform look to all of the components.

The title block is versatile and may serve to share a lot of information or just a little. For example, a cabinet company may want to include a description of the cabinets and hardware in the title block while in other cases the title block may be as simple as the company name and customer name.

Any way that you decide to do it, a personalized title block added to your drawings makes a document that illustrates a professional attitude. Why not try it? See how you feel when you look at drawings with a clean, crisp title block compared to—well—a plain piece of paper!

see a personalized title block on the right edge of page

A very talented designer from a local kitchen and bath firm took a 3 hour private 20-20 design (V8.1.13) software class from me today. She was thrilled to learn some tips and tricks on drawing walls and placing them in a complicated space. The space had recessed walls, angles (and not 45 degree!), and lots of turns. When she left she said her time investment was well spent and she did in fact have several “Aha!” moments. She learned some time saving techniques as well. Music to my ears…

It has been a busy month of teaching 20-20 Design (AKA Kitchen and Bath CAD) at the Art Institute of Colorado. The class has a variety of students and each has specific needs and requirements. This week due was their Midterm project assignment. It’s very exciting to witness their growth in the class.

There is also a very nice lady that is getting private lessons from me. We are working towards 6 each 3-hour sessions and she is so enthusiastic! It is really fun for me because I love using 20-20 Design software, and teaching it! She and I are meeting for our 3rd session next week. And in case anyone would like to know, her training is “free” for her. Yes that is what I said. It is a terrific program that is available to certain people. Contact me for more info.

Next week I will be re-visiting a well respected and reputable kitchen showroom in the metro area and working with one of their salesmen on more advanced techniques in 20-20. I have worked with several of their staff and will be working with more of their people in the future.

It has been a wonderful week. And I have to say “Thank You” to the very special people who have me draft projects for them in addition to all my students. You are a joy to have in my life and I love working with all of you.

Next wee
